Spring Maintenance Checklist

The days of cold weather are quickly moving past us. Soon before you know it, Spring of 2021 will be here! There are several things about spring to be excited about such as the blooming flowers, fresh air, and of course spending time at your favorite beach or park. However, the winter may have resulted in a lot of inspection and maintenance work inside and outside your rental that may have been put off until now. Hopefully, this springtime maintenance checklist can bring you some valuable information!

Exterior Inspection Tips:

  • Check your gutters – During the fall/winter months, your gutters could get clogged with leaves, ice, and debris. It is important to conduct a thorough inspection to makes sure that they are clear. After all, April showers bring May flowers! You will want to make sure rainwater can easily pass through and not cause major problems to the inside and outside of your home.
  • Check for rotting wood – Be sure to check your siding, trim, wooden deck, or porch for any rot or deterioration. It may be something to take care of before it worsens. It could end up bringing unwanted insects and could weaken the foundation.
  • Tree and bush Pruning – Early spring is a good time to prune or trim trees that may be hanging over your home. Not a bad time to trim the overgrowth on your bushes as well.

Interior Inspection Tips:

  • Check Smoke/CO Detectors – It is always important to keep your smoke/CO detectors on your radar. You should test them any chance you get and change the batteries once every 3 months. The springtime may be a good time to check and see if you need to replace any
  • A/C Check-Up – Just as you would check your heating system in the fall as you prepare for winter, it is good to conduct a checkup on your A/C units to make sure they are in working order as the heat of the summer arrives. P.S. – It also may be a good time to check your screens on your windows – You don’t want to miss out on that spring cross breeze!
  • Check your basement sump pump – As spring approaches, so does the threat of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flooding. If your basement is prone to water backup, you may want to install a sump pump or check on the one you have. That will prevent most flooding in any type of basement.

We here at Cornerstone sincerely hope this list helps as you prepare for spring. Enjoy the change in the air and please feel free to give us a call or contact us via email if you have any additional questions regarding preparing your rental property, condo, or house for the upcoming months!
